aja monet is a grammy-nominated blues poet from brooklyn who delivers her liberating slam poetry with an intense and passionate energy. This energy is amplified by the virtuoso jazz musicians who surround her, making each performance a compelling experience. her poems explore profound social themes such as activism, resistance, love and a tireless search for joy.

During this performance, Monet will play work from her acclaimed debut album 'when the poems do what they do' but also new work will be reviewed. From a young age, she has performed at the legendary Nuyorican Poets Café. There, at the age of 19, she became the youngest Grand Slam Poetry Champion in the history of the venue.

On her debut album she played with the crème de la crème of the New York jazz scene, such as Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott), Marcus Gilmore, Elena Pinderhughes, Luques Curtis, Samora Pinderhughes and Weedie Braimah.
