Fresku

On Tuesday, July 16, Fresku will play in the Stevenskerk. First he wants to become a singer. He then dreams of careers as a book writer, cartoonist and actor – all before he has completed high school. It should be clear: Roy Michael Reymound (Eindhoven, October 26, 1986) knew from an early age that he had no interest in an ordinary office job. He wants to create himself. But he never sees such a career as a real possibility for the future.

When he starts rapping at the age of fourteen, it is mainly for fun. But little by little he became more serious, and at the age of twenty he formed the Black Sheep group with Karimineel. In the meantime, Fresku and some friends - including director Teemong - are increasingly making persifsive videos that he puts on the internet. And finally, at the end of 2008, a breakthrough occurred in both areas. On the one hand, the corniness of the Gino Pietermaai character is embraced by hundreds of thousands of people, on the other hand, the candid songs 'Brief Aan Kees' and 'Twijfel' immediately put Fresku on the map as a unique, personal rapper. That combination of funny and serious, of wink and sincerity, characterizes Fresku's work.
