Peter Somuah

Peter Somuah is a jazz trumpeter from Accra, Ghana. Somuah learned to master his instrument by listening endlessly to trumpet legends such as Roy Hargrove and Miles Davis. His playing is characterized by his warm and melancholic sound, combined with his sense of rhythm, fueled by his upbringing in Ghana, where he was surrounded by West African music.

After a number of successful years as a musician in Ghana, Somuah settled in Rotterdam. In the Netherlands he soon collaborated with artists such as Akwasi and Yung Nnelg. His live reputation has not gone unnoticed either, which has even earned him an Erasmus Jazz award. A debut album was inevitable and was also released last spring: 'Outer Space'. With his Peter Somuah Group, he explores the boundaries of jazz, afro-funk and traditional Ghanaian music.
