Nienke Dingemans & Jan van Bijnen (duo)
Nienke Dingemans is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from a small town in the southwest of the Netherlands. Equipped with a powerful and lived-in singing voice with character and great musical talent, she knows how to touch her audience despite her young age. Not only with her love for blues, Americana, country, jazz and soul, but also with her ability to sing from her heart. She plays great (slide) guitar, lap steel and piano. Her love for the blues started when she was just 12 years old, simply by making music every Saturday morning with two family friends. She continued to develop further through singing lessons from mentor/teacher Caspar de Jonge and regular visits to concerts (Beth Hart, Tedeschi Trucks Band, North Sea Jazz and other well-known and unknown artists). At an early age she took to the stage at the monthly jam session in Building T (Bergen op Zoom), a great opportunity to make live music with experienced musicians.
Writing her own songs started when she could accompany herself, first on piano and later on guitar. Her lyrics are often poetic and tell a story. In 2020 she started collaborating with producers and multi-instrumentalists Jan van Bijnen and Joost Verbraak, which resulted in the release of her first EP 'Devil on my Shoulder' at the end of 2021. This immediately took her to the number 1 position in the Americana Roots Top 13 and a number 5 ranking in the EuroAmericana Chart.
With her own songs things suddenly move quickly: a tour of the Dutch and Flemish theaters: 'How a 14-year-old girl got the Blues' with Verbraak | van Bijnen and bassist Joris Verbogt, festival performances, live performance on Radio Veronica, live interview NPO2 at North Sea Jazz, nomination for best CD by the Dutch Blues Foundation, podcast with Simon Keizer and a column by Mart Smeets in the VARA guide completely devoted to her music. With the Nienke Dingemans Band she is a support act for Ana Popovic, Jan Akkerman and during the SENA Guitar Night for Ad Vandenberg's rock band. At the end of 2023 she will make a guest appearance during the concert of the American singer/songwriter Jim Keller at the famous Blue Room Sessions. In October 2023, Nienke will be presented with the Young Blues Talent award by the Dutch Blues Foundation. An award she is very proud of. 2024 also promises to be a beautiful musical year. 'Aint No Hollywood Girl' will be released on vinyl in the spring; Nienke Dingemans' new album, produced for Verbraak | van Bijnen Recordings. From February she can be seen throughout the country as a support act for the NevenProject, a new musical recipe from the kitchen of Jack Poels, the frontman of Rowwen Hèze. The tour takes her to all the larger pop venues in the Netherlands.
