The septuagenarian performed at the gigantic Roskilde Festival last year and has even managed to break through in the autumn of his career. The reason is as simple as it is not self-evident: he is a grandmaster of the benju, an instrument that is not very well-known outside the Pakistani region of Balochistan. Undeservedly so, because this music sounds as heavenly as it is hypnotic. Sometimes Valkhof Festival is a place to pause and think about how special music can be, and this will undoubtedly be one of those moments again.
