Gökay Atabek en Werner van der Zwan

Muttering Void is a series of works in which Gökay Atabek and Werner van der Zwan investigate how the objects into which our waste disappears can be given a voice. Trash cans and vacuum cleaners have been transformed into moving bodies through robotic interventions and play a role in events that highlight the catastrophic side of technological progress.

Technical progress also has an ecological dark side, which is accompanied by massive destruction. Many products are designed from the start to break and have no 'place' once they are used up. After use, they disappear into trash cans and vacuum cleaners, making it seem as if the problem has been solved. However, our stuff never really disappears. On the contrary, much of our waste is moved, burned, and returns in other forms to haunt our daily lives. To break down this illusion of cleanliness, the artists strive to give these 'disappearing places' a voice in the form of a musical theater piece played by these objects.

During the Valkhof Festival, the duo presents a number of scenes in the form of an installation in the Chapel in which these objects play on the edge of the abyss. Come and listen to the voice of destruction.
