Orchestra Baobab

The Senegalese Orchestra Baobab creates classic, warm-blooded melodies that bring together Afro-Cuban rhythms and African music. The band has carved out a special place in the history of African music and has been active for over 50 years!

In 1970, a nightclub named 'Baobab Club' was opened in Dakar. The nightclub was named after the national symbol of Senegal: the baobab. The house band that played there was named after the nightclub: Orchestra Baobab. Since then, this group has become West Africa's most iconic dance band. The new work sounds familiar and the mature sound that Orchestra Baobab has made legendary is clearly recognizable. Yet the band manages to make their sound more fascinating than ever with lively twists and energetic additions. In honor of this special milestone, Orchestra Baobab is re-releasing its 2002 reunion album 'Specialist In All Styles', for the first time on vinyl.
